Clean Energy Regulator attacks think tank, defends Santos

The Clean Energy Regulator published a statement attacking The Australia Institute’s analysis of Santos’s failed Moomba carbon capture and storage project.

The CER claims that the independent think tank’s analysis “makes a number of false and misleading claims.”

The CER claims that “Santos has said publicly it no longer intends to carry out EOR at Moomba” and that “the TAI report acknowledges, Santos has said publicly it no longer intends to carry out EOR at Moomba”.

However, there are no public sources alleging the first claim, and no source for the second claim to be found in The Australia Institute’s analysis.

When asked to support their claims, and answer whether they had been in contact with Santos regarding The Australia Institute’s analysis, the CER replied only with “The Clean Energy Regulator has nothing further to add on these matters beyond the statement on its website”.

A previous MWM investigation has shown that Scott Morrison and Angus Taylor have attempted to undermine The Clean Energy Regulator.
